5 Ways to Serve Your Pastor's Wife

1. Value God's Design

Every disciple of Jesus is uniquely gifted to serve him. Your pastor’s wife may not serve in the same manner as your former pastor’s wife, or even in the same manner she did in the previous season in her life. Imagine the things God has put in your pastor’s wife’s hands, and pray that he would equip her to glorify him in everything he’s called her to do.

2. Pray Specifically

It’s wonderful to tell your minister’s wife that you are going to pray for her. But how about praying together right there on the spot? Or perhaps you could write her an email after you’ve prayed. The Spirit uses our fellowship to build our faith as we look to God for provision.

3. Share Your Life

You might know a lot about your pastor’s family, but do they know as much about you? Sit down with an elder’s wife over coffee and share your testimony of how you came to faith. Perhaps you could tell her how much the church body means to your family. Marvel together at God’s grace!

4. Use Your Imagination

Sometimes when we consider someone who has different circumstances or responsibilities than we do, we say, “I can’t imagine.” We assume we are just too different. Hearing this makes many ministry wives feel lonely, so instead, try to imagine. You’ll find that you have more in common with the minister’s family than you realized.

The Pastor's Wife

Gloria Furman

Filled with wise advice from someone who’s “been there,” this short book encourages pastors’ wives to look to Christ when facing the challenges of ministry, whether it’s late-night counseling sessions, unfair complaints, or unrealistic expectations.

5. Lend a Helping Hand

There are seasons when some ministers spend more time away from their family than usual. The minister’s wife often carries a heavier load during this time and might enjoy an extra pair of hands for housework, an extra friend for fellowship, or an extra babysitter so she can have some time alone. How can you help?
