Simply Read: Day 1
The Beginning
It's day 1 of Simply Read, an 8-day Bible reading challenge adapted from ESV Reader’s Bible, Six-Volume Set aimed at helping us set aside time—prolonged time—to immerse ourselves in God’s Word as we enter this holiday season.
Over the next 8 days, we’ll read through the entirety of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, following the story of Jesus, his disciples, and the early church as they spread the good news of Christ’s kingdom throughout the Mediterranean world.
We start our journey at the beginning of the Gospel of Luke, where we encounter Zechariah and Elizabeth, the father and mother of John the Baptist. We then move on to meet a young virgin named Mary, who is visited by the angel Gabriel and given an incredible promise: she will give birth to a son, one who “will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
And with that, the true story of Jesus—God in the flesh—begins . . .
