The Way We Grow as Christians
Look to Christ
We need to look to Christ. We need to draw our strength from him. The way we grow is simply by looking to Christ. In Colossians 3, in Hebrews 12, and all through the New Testament, we are called to look out of ourselves and at Christ.
As we gaze upon him, as we see him in Scripture, as we pray to him, as we walk through pain and suffering that causes us to see him more acutely and clearly, as we ponder being united to him, as we think about our justified status, as we ponder heaven, all of this is, in a different way, looking at Christ. We are “setting the eyes of our hearts” (as Ephesians 1 puts it) on him.

Dane Ortlund
Pastor and best-selling author Dane Ortlund offers words of encouragement to those seeking to grow deeper in their faith, making the case that sanctification is not accomplished by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into Christ himself.
This is not really a list of things to do. We go deeper in Christ. We get traction as we grow. We get momentum. We really are transformed as we look to Jesus Christ.
Dane C. Ortlund is the author of Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners.
